related to thousand horsepower cigarette... at the performance was an NYC-based culture mag called Frontrunner. if you want more underground music reporting than you can get from sites like pitchfork, i recommend checking them out. and i will be keeping an eye out for more small and local art/music/culture mags for underrated finds.

band: thousand horsepower cigarette +/ desire lines

last friday i had the pleasure of going to see a brand new clarkie duo, thousand horsepower cigarette (thc) who are not on spotify yet. however, one of two members is in a second band, desire lines, which is on spotify and i recommend their EP, sherwood. it's less than 20 minutes, go have a listen.

blog: ENAO guy

real music fans out there loved the every noise at once genre web x music discovery website and realer music fans know that the single guy in charge of genres at spotify got laid off, rendering ENAO an inactive snapshot, but luckily he has written a book (on my tbr) and he has a blog that you should check out here. unfortunately, still no perfect alternatives to ENAO, but there's always fun ways to discover music non-algorithmically. there's always your friends' neocities pages.

album: in a poem unlimited by u.s. girls

i discovered this album through my daylist this week, and i'm now absolutely obsessed with it. it's overall about women's anger and and is full of storytelling and it has such a unique sound. it's like Hole/Garbage meets Marina meets jazz collective with a little r&b. it got an 8.6 from pitchfork when it came out in 2018.

i've listened to some other work from this artist (u.s. girls is a solo project by one woman) as well since discovering this, and have also enjoyed those. i see myself getting really into this artist.
